I had the good fortune the other day to take a ride in a small private single engine airplane owned by a friend of mine. I can’t remember the model but my friend, Mark, a professional pilot who flies for one of the big airlines, decided he was going to take my wife and me for breakfast. We arrived at the airport at about 6:30am so it was still a little chilly, but the sun was shining and it was a beautiful day, as are most days in Scottsdale, AZ. The flight was less than an hour each way and view was spectacular.

The Pre-Flight Checklist

Before the flight got under way, which I will tell you about in a minute, I was happy to walk around the plane with Mark to check that all the pieces were in place and to be sure everything was as it should be. He keeps the plane in a private indoor hanger so there isn’t much chance anyone would have tampered with it, but we checked everything out anyway. His thoroughness and concentration impressed me. I was assured that all was as it should be.

Once we had loaded ourselves into the four-seater, Mark pulled out a plasticised piece of paper that had three columns with a few sections to each column. He began to look over the list, turning a few knobs, flicking switches and pushing some buttons as he methodically went down the list.

Now I knew that pilots use checklists, but Mark has been flying most of his life and this plane wasn’t complex like a big jet. I am sure he had every move he needed to do memorized.

I asked Mark, “Why do you use the checklist when I am sure you know this by heart?” When I thought about his response it made complete sense. He said, “it keeps me on track and prevents me from getting distracted. Also, using the checklist I always do things in a certain order. This also helps prevent distraction or even missing one of the steps.”

I didn’t think about it much more during the flight; I was too busy enjoying the view and the experience.

The Daily SuperRicher Organizer

However, when I got home later that day I began to really think about the importance of Mark’s checklist and realized that it’s actually very similar to the checklist I use every day. I call my checklist The Daily SuperRicher Organizer. It’s only the single side of one page but it keeps me on task every day and helps me be sure I am getting done what needs to be done each day. It reminds me to connect with the people I need to connect with that day, sets out my priorities and keeps me from getting distracted or missing something, just like Mark’s checklist. Most importantly, the checklist ensures that I move closer to the goals I have set for myself to accomplish, whether they are small ones for the day or the larger, long range goals that may take years.

Master Time Efficiency

As I thought about this more, I realized that this checklist system I have created is actually an extremely powerful tool that has helped me to become a master of time efficiency. I have always known about and practiced making to-do lists and marking off tasks as I complete them. It just really hit me like a ton of bricks what a massive influence this one sheet of paper can be in a person’s life. That is why I have decided to make my checklist available to everyone by giving it away for free on my web site, old.tonyneumeyer.com. I tidied it up some and added a few instructions for you so that it’s easy to follow.

Remain on Task and Focused

It is very simple to use. Just fill in the blanks at the end of each day in preparation for the next day. The checklist includes the current projects you are working on and the tasks that must be performed that day in order to move you toward your goals. There are also To-dos, appointments and, as I said, the people you need to connect with that day.

Whether you use my Organizer or just write this out on a piece of paper, the process of doing it frees up your brain to think of other things during the evening and while you sleep. It can be and really is a freeing experience, because you no longer need to remember what it is you are going to do the next day.

At the start of each day you will have everything you must do and complete written out clearly and right in front of you.

Believe me when I say that having this list in front of you, either on your desk, wall or computer, will help keep you focused, on task and moving steadily toward your goals like never before.

After having breakfast with Mark, we all got back in the plane and he once again pulled out his checklist to be sure the plane was ready for take off.

Systemization Gets Results

This type of systemization ensures consistent results and safety for the passengers and crew. Systemization is what I like to do also. I Create systems or step-by-step approaches that guide you from where you are today to where you want to be tomorrow. I believe that this systemization is one of the things many goal setters unfortunately miss.

One of the thrills of the flight occurred shortly after we had taken off from the Payson airport and had reached our cruising altitude. Mark turned to me and through the headset intercom he asked, “Do you want to take control?” Of course I jumped at the chance. I actually flew us all the way back to the home airport and even brought the plane down to the approach altitude.

That was a great deal of fun and Mark said I did very well. I don’t know if he was just being nice, but I do actually think I did pretty well.

When you think about what it is you’d like to accomplish and look at the big picture or bigger, long-term goal it can sometimes seem overwhelming. However, when you are able to break it down into bite sized manageable tasks and then systemize your approach to accomplishing them, you are far likelier to succeed than if you just simply set the goal somewhere off in the distance.

Have More Time to Do What You Enjoy

The other great thing about using your time efficiently is that you also get to have more quality down time. We all need time to rejuvenate and enjoy life, so getting more done by being more efficient will create that extra time to do whatever it is you really enjoy.

So I strongly encourage you to take charge of the time you have by using my Daily SuperRicher Organizer. It is my gift to you, to start you on the road to becoming a master of time efficiency, so you can create all that you want for your future and the future of those you love. This one simple tool may just be the thing that helps jumpstart your success and move you into super achiever status!
