I’ve been saying this for months, but it’s time our police departments around the Country tell all levels of Government they are not going to do any more Covid “enforcements.”
The Police Chief of the City of Vancouver came under fire from media and some Gov officials for his stance when he publicly said he would not ask the Vancouver Police to enforce the draconian Covid “rules” being put forth by the Provincial and Federal governments. I congratulate Adam Palmer for his courage!
There are police in Ontario that are refusing to wear masks and enforce rules that are being thrust upon Canadians. The move is just starting but needs a lot more momentum.
The scene of Canada’s police officers “taking a knee” at supposed George Floyd, or Black Lives Matter protests last year was not something I agreed with at all. (maybe not for the reasons you think – another time) But then why are they not doing the same in support of people fighting against the autocratic, draconian Covid restrictions is puzzling and not thought through. Cities across Canada and the US are “defunding the police,” some quietly and some not so much. Vancouver City and North Vancouver City are only two examples where the Council has removed funding from their respective police departments. (those Counselors should never receive another vote for re-election in my opinion)
Why would the police support this insanity the Governments are asking/ordering them to do? Turning law-abiding citizens into criminals for not wearing a mask or gathering in groups with people “not part of your home bubble?” This while at the same time removing funds from their budget’s. Those funds could be used to keep them and us safe.
Well, the truth is, the police are people too. According to the founder of policeonguard.ca, Len Faul, half the police are disgusted with the government asking them to make criminals out of law-abiding citizens and the other half have bought into the fear dogma of the Government. Keep in mind, the Government wants you to report on your neighbour if they do anything, they, or the Public Health Officer deems “dangerous.” Activities like having a wedding, watching a sporting event or going to church. This is done in communist regimes and during the Nazi days of Germany.
To be clear, I’m generally and usually a big supporter of the police and have walked up to many in different cities and told them how much I appreciate the work they do. However, right now I’m losing some faith and if the police continue to assault others for simply not wearing a mask I’m going to be hard-presses to continue my thank your or congratulations.
So how do we push-back against the Gestapo like approaches our Government is pushing our police to conduct? First, tell the damn politicians to stop using our police to enforce ANY Covid “rules.” Second, whenever you see a police officer, kindly and nicely ask them if they’re OK with what is being asked of them or if this is what the signed on to be a Police Officer for? Then tell them it’s time to push back against the Government and its unconstitutional procedures.
