How often do you read these days that you should follow your passion and build a business associated with that passion?

It’s become almost a “proverb” with many online marketing “gurus” these days.

But, think about this…

Michelangelo slaved away on this back for over four years to complete the painting of the Sistine Chapel.

Hold on, that’s not true.

He did it standing up on wood scaffolding. It’s interesting how this mistold story about one of the world’s most renowned works of art endures.

But he hated painting the Sistine Chapel.

In fact, he didn’t even want to do it when asked to. He did it, begrudgingly.

He actually thought of himself as more of a poet.

He ended up writing a disparaging poem about painting the Chapel, where in the last line he says: “I am not a painter.”

You can feel his pain as you read the translated version of the poem, originally written in Italian.

This is an important lesson.
