What’s the first thing new parents usually fret over when their bouncing baby girl or boy arrives?
The name, right?
There’s a whole industry around baby naming. If you want some proof, just Google “baby naming.”
If you have your autofill turned on, you’ll get some immediate suggestions, like:
Baby naming:
- Ceremony
- Jewish
- Party
- Etiquette with family
- Gifts
I had no idea people had ceremonies or parties around naming their baby.
Now, when I moved out of the house in my 20s, my mom gave me “The Vogue Book of Etiquette” as a gift,
I’m not sure if that was a sign she thought I was boor, and needed it to help catch a girl or what?
I must ask her one day.
But I don’t remember anything about baby naming in the book (maybe there was—making a baby wasn’t an objective in my early 20s).
But parents fret over the names and sometimes so much so, the baby goes unnamed for days or weeks until it’s finally decided upon.
But what about naming a product, a book or a course?
If naming a child is tough, that’s got to be way tougher…
It is!
I can tell you from experience.
Naming my son and daughter was an almighty chore. One criterion was to come up with names that couldn’t be shortened. Not that there’s anything wrong with shortening a name—getting to Tony from Anthony, as in my case.
