I have a question that most people usually don’t ask or even thing about. Do you have habits of success or habits of failure?

Often when I ask this question I get a perplexed look. The person might say, “I don’t know, I have some good habits and some bad habits.”

What does it really mean when someone says that?

Usually, that person is creating habits without even realizing they are doing it. Their habits are not being created on purpose or with purpose.

We all have habits. One of the better ones that you likely have is the habit of brushing your teeth. It’s a good habit. Smoking on the other hand is considered a bad habit by most these days.

But before going further, let’s look at the definition of the word habit. According to the dictionary a habit is, “a settled or regular tenancy or practice, especially one that is hard to give up.”

Creating Power Habits of Success

What’s interesting is that most of our habits are formed by regular routine behaviours without our conscious awareness. We seem to just fall into a routine and the habit just happens. What if we want to create good habits in the same way, can we? I know for a fact that you can.

Actually, I have used techniques for creating habits that doubled my real estate sales in a single year. That’s why I call them Power Habits of Success. These habits can be anything from eating better, to quitting smoking or losing weight, allowing you to create the future you desire and deserve. The possibilities are limitless. In fact, what I do is help people create these Power Habits of Success!

A Power Habit of Success is something that drives you and takes you toward the future that you have envisioned and have decided you want to create. It propels you toward this goal and objective, moving you closer each and every day. Once these habits are ingrained, they move you effortlessly, operating on a subconscious level, without the need for a burdensome conscious decision or effort on your part. And it feels good while you are doing it!

I’ve done it myself and also worked with people who make the decision to form a habit that will take them toward their goal. The beauty of this technique is that it is simple. Once you’ve made the decision to form this new habit, you can begin to program yourself and actually create that habit.

Just over 50 years ago the president of Harvard University, Professor Eliot, gave a speech entitled, “The Habits of Success.” In it he talked about how people at an early age fall into one of two categories: Those that have that winning feeling due to the habits of success they had as children and those that have the feeling or habits of failure. He postulated that people fell into this second group due to not experiencing multiple successes at an early age and being overwhelmed with tasks that were too difficult for them at that age. Professor Eliot concluded that, to achieve membership in the first group, you should gradually build upon past strengths in order to increase your current strength.

Creating Success One Step at a Time

The good news is that by using the techniques I am telling you about here, you can start to achieve successes at every level in your life. You see, when you break your goals down into doable and small enough tasks, you can accomplish virtually anything you set your mind to.

As the saying goes; “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.” How do you create success in your life? One step at a time! When you program yourself with a small task, something that is doable and leads you to your greater goal, you begin to experience successes that you can build upon.

Let me ask you this: Are there any habits you have today that you would like to alter? Is there anything you’d like to accomplish with ease that you find difficult to do today?

Harness the Power of Your Subconscious

You see, habits are a part of your subconscious. They are either put there by chance through random outside influences, or else they can be purposefully embedded so that you accomplish everything you want to accomplish simply and easily.

This may not sound possible to many people; however altering your personal behaviors by utilizing of the power of your subconscious mind is actually much easier than you think. The technique that I use stems from the realm of self-hypnosis and the science behind it.

Now when you think of self-hypnosis don’t think of it as some esoteric thing. As I said, there’s loads of science and research behind this method. However you don’t need to know the science in order to utilize this powerful technique. I’ve studied it for you so you don’t need to.

Personal Programming Messages

So how do you form these new power habits?

Well, utilizing the methods in my book, The 7 Minute Millionaire, and in my step-by-step Retire Rich course, you will find that creating Power Habits of Success is simple and easy. I use what are called Personal Programming Messages (PPM’s). These are simply messages that you create and want to embed in your subconscious. By doing this, your subconscious will begin to move you toward everything it is that you desire. Your subconscious is continuously moving you in one direction or another, so why not take charge of it and have it purposefully move you in the direction you want to go rather than allowing your direction to be programmed by random outside sources.

When you start to take control of your subconscious, programming your mind with purpose, you’ll usually begin to see dramatic changes in a very short time, often in as little as 30 days or even less.

Now, if you’ve had a bad habit for a very long time and it is deeply embedded in the subconscious, it may take longer than three or four weeks to change that habit. However, once it has been changed, with the use of your PPM’s you will continue to keep it at bay as you move down the road that you’ve chosen for yourself.

Clarify What You Want To Create

So how do you go about creating a PPM? First you need to know what it is you want to create in your life. The habit, the direction and result along with the steps required to get you there. It’s critical that the PPM be defined very clearly and succinctly. You will want to write out exactly what it is that you want to program your mind with. There are some simple techniques detailed in my book and the Retire Rich course to help you do this.

You will also want to be able to envision everything it is that you are writing down. Most of us think in the form of pictures. It’s scientifically proven that over 60% of people think in picture form without practice. It is critical that you be able to envision what it is that you’re writing.

Your PPM needs to be written in the first-person and in present tense, as though you’ve already acquired or accomplished what it is that you’re writing out.

Ask yourself, what type of power success habit do you want to create? Do you always want to be upbeat when you’re on the phone with customers? That sounds simple doesn’t it? But some people really struggle with that. It’s an important skill to have, especially if you’re in sales.

When I was in sales I decided to make cold phone calls every day five days a week. It was certainly not the most glamorous or fun project of the day. However, by creating a PPM around this task I was able to turn what seemed like a mundane daily operation into a habit I looked forward to each day and that actually earned me tens of thousands of dollars each and every year.

So creating a Power Habit or a Success Habit can be as simple as taking something you are doing currently that you don’t enjoy, and turning it into something that you look forward to enthusiastically by reprogramming your subconscious to want to do the task each and every day.

Earlier I mentioned how we all have a good habit of brushing our teeth. Of course we know the detrimental effects of not brushing our teeth. Our teeth will rot and fallout, we can get heart disease from poor gum health as well as just having bad breathe and poor social interactions. Something as simple as not brushing your teeth can have dire consequences for your overall life enjoyment. So of course we all brush our teeth daily to avoid those negative consequences.

Allowing negative habits to be programmed into your subconscious on a daily basis can also lead to dire results. Just look around; there are countless people with great potential that don’t accomplish or achieve that potential. They have probably never thought about the habits that are filling their mind. If you don’t make a conscious effort to fill your subconscious with the positive habits that will move you toward your goals, objectives and desires you are allowing the outside world to dictate your direction.

Putting Personal Programming Messages to Work

OK, so you’ve decided on the new habits you want to create. You will write them out in the form of Personal Programming Messages written in the present tense and first person. Next, you will take those PPM’s and record them in your own voice. Once you’ve done this, you are going to listen to them each and every day, first thing the morning and last thing at night. Your subconscious will be working on what you’ve just programmed it with the very first thing in the morning, before other outside sources have a chance to start influencing it. Listening to your PPM’s again last thing before you go to bed, your subconscious will be working on these messages as you are going to sleep and throughout the night. This one incredibly powerful technique can make miraculous changes in your life.

It’s Not Only Possible, Its’ Easy!

So the question becomes, what habits do you have now that are directing your life? And what habits do you want to have, that will direct your life moving forward? Is there a habit that you can think of that you would like to change right now? It’s not only possible to change it; it’s actually possible to do it simply.

I’ve seen people lose weight and quit smoking using this method. Earlier I talked about staying on task and staying focused. Using PPM’s will allow you to stay on task and focused simply and effortlessly. The reason for this is because you have created a new daily set of routines that are now habits, directing your actions at a subconscious level.

Choose to Take Control

A habit that is destructive and working against you or one that was randomly placed into your subconscious by outside sources is not going to get you where you want to go in life. Instead, choose habits that will move you toward your chosen goals and objectives. Ones that you’ve thought of in your conscious mind and decided to embed into your subconscious mind. By doing this you are choosing and creating your future. You are creating what you have decided you want to create.

Sometimes the simplest things can have the most profound results in our life. So don’t underestimate this powerful technique. PPM’s are a simple and yet extremely effective way to create new habits, Power Habits of Success!
