The Dalai Lama was asked during an interview what surprised him the most in life. This was his answer
“Man surprised me the most about humanity. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.
It’s a powerful statement, and one that I’m sure resonates with many people
So today I want to discuss health and money. When people think about getting healthy, they don’t commonly associate that with generating wealth. Likewise when a person is so consumed with work and reaching financial freedom, health often takes a backseat
Personally I don’t understand why people feel the need to alienate one from the other. For me they work in unison to create a life worth living. What’s the point of generating financial freedom if your body is a ticking time bomb and you simply won’t have the time to enjoy it
You don’t have to choose between one or the other. I recommend finding the perfect balance of both. While health is often associated with having that beach-ready body, let me tell you there is so much more to gain at a deeper level.
Physical Youth
An active lifestyle will keep you in better shape. It’s a no-brainer. You’ll look better and, more importantly, feel better. In terms of looks, regular exercise and healthy eating will give you better skin, fewer wrinkles, leaner muscles and a great physique.
Not to mention your heart will be healthy and strong. Thus lowering your blood pressure and cholesterol levels. This in turn reduces your risk of heart disease and diabetes
You’ll have more energy to spend, whether it’s on your work, hobbies or family time. As a result of being active, you’ll actually get better sleep too. Due to the physical exertion, your body will require natural rest. One of the effects of an unhealthy lifestyle is the inability to get proper sleep. Unfit people often wake up after a night’s sleep feeling exhausted and drained. Ever had that problem before? The rest of the day just seems to drag on and you’re unable to focus or get anything done at your fullest potential
With a little physical activity and good eating habits, this will no longer be a problem
In fact, when you look after your body, your brain will thank you. Even gentle exercise has been shown to stimulate the production of a protein called brain-derived neurotropic factor (BDNF). What that does is basically allow your brain to create more connections and improve overall cognitive function so you end up learning and focusing better
It’s a simple and yet chellenging journey to financial freedom, and a healthy body and mind will get you there quicker and with more ease
Positive Mentality
Staying active not only improves your stamina and keeps your weight in check, it also improves your mental health. Studies have shown that people who are physically active manage stress better and display a higher self-esteem
It is important that you pay attention to your physical health as you strive to achieve financial freedom. If you neglect it, the daily stresses and challenges along the way can take a toll on your health as you reach up that ladder to achieve more.
The phrase runners use of “hitting the wall” during marathons is your mind telling your body that you can’t do it, even though you can. When a person who isn’t active faces this block on their journey to financial freedom, often they falter and fail.
By physically going through it, hitting that wall and pushing through to come out on the other side triumphant, you will be able to translate that positivity and drive into other areas of your life.
Difficulties, setbacks and pressure are all very real problems that you will face. But if you’re able to break through the mental barrier of running 5 miles, that attitude will carry through to everything you do.
Now, I’m not saying you have to go out and start training for a marathon. But the concept of pushing your physical boundaries has been shown to have lasting positive effects in the way people approach new obstacles in life.
On top of that, the boost your self-esteem gets when you focus on your health is incomparable.
I know that if you start an exercise program you will feel better and perform better in all areas of your life. You don’t have to go to a gym or hire a personal trainer, but you can if you feel that would be helpful. You can also do body weight exercises. These are exercises that don’t require gym equipment. In fact, in my book, Super-Fit Now, I give you 25 exercises you can do. Click >HERE< to see it on Amazon.com.
Longer Lifespan
Better health means an increased natural lifespan.
Simply put, your immune system will get a huge boost and you’ll be less likely to suffer illnesses. You’ll improve your blood circulation, which means lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure and even a better skin tone.
In fact, exercise slows down the effects of aging. The production of a growth hormone that results from physical activity has been shown to heal individual cells. This means visible signs of aging will be reversed as your body begins repairing skin cells and rejuvenating your organs.
It really doesn’t matter how much money you make at the end of the day, if you don’t have your health a fit body to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Not only will a healthy lifestyle provide you with the means to reach your goal sooner with improved IQ, better focus and a go-getter attitude, but it also ensures that once you hit your target, you’ll be around a long time to reap the benefits. So here are three quick ways to instantly improve your health without needing to make drastic life changes:
-
Move
If you’re serious about attaining financial freedom, I want you to be serious about being healthy. Your body is a temple, so look after it. You have to live somewhere and your body is your home.
Join a gym and commit to working out at least three times a week. And if you can afford it, take things a step further by hiring a professional trainer to help you.
The easiest, fastest route to success is having a mentor guide you. Someone who has been in your shoes, tried and tested different solutions and has already reached the goal you are striving for. This is the reason why I created my mentoring programs. I’ve been in your situation and come out on the other side. I’ve struggled, faced bankruptcy, had my assets sold and been left with nothing but debt. Yet through it all, I discovered the secrets to generating an 8-figure net worth and becoming financially free.
If you want to be successful, follow the footsteps of someone who already is.
The same goes for your health. Don’t think of it as spending money on a trainer, but rather investing in yourself so that you can live a longer, happier life.
If you’re not into the gym, take up a sport. Spending time with others is a great way to network and build social connections as well as boosting your fitness level and benefitting from all the physical and mental improvements that will result. Or, if you prefer starting off in the privacy of your home, for a few dollars you can get my book on Amazon or the Apple Store, and get started on your journey toward physical fitness and improved health.
At the very least, walk. Whether it’s taking the stairs instead of the elevator or parking a few feet further than the front door, a few extra steps everyday will build up to a lifetime of better habits.
-
Drink Water
Increasing your water intake to at least 8 glasses a day will significantly improve your health. Not only will your skin and hair look better, making sure your body has enough water will alleviate general aches, pains and headaches.
Cut back on your alcohol intake. Research has shown that men who drink three to four units of alcohol a day on a regular basis are three times more likely to have a stroke. Other health complications that arise from alcohol include cancers, heart attacks, liver problems and weight gain.
Drop the energy drinks and soda all together. The US Food and Drug Administration announced that energy drinks were the cause of hundreds of hospitalizations, some even leading to death. High-protein snacks like almonds, peanut butter, and yogurt are natural energy boosters that you can substitute for those caffeinated beverages. Or consider investing in a juicer to boost your energy and health.
-
Eat Well
Finally, eat. Don’t be tempted to skip meals, especially breakfast. If you’re one of those people that never seem to have time for a proper breakfast, take note that skipping this essential meal often leads to irritability and overeating at lunchtime.
Consume more fruit and vegetables daily. Just by adding a few small portions throughout the day, you significantly lower your risk of serious health complications that include obesity, heart disease and diabetes.
I don’t need to tell you to quit the junk and fast food, do I? These foods have little to no nutritional value, are high in calories. High-calorie, low nutrient value foods are a problem in society. Best to just stay away from them. There are an endless variety of delicious and interesting alternatives out there. Start exploring healthy food options!
I hope that you not only realize how important it is to be healthy and maintain it, but that you take serious steps toward safeguarding your own life. Don’t compromise on your health while you strive for financial freedom. Take on both hand-in-hand, and you’ll find that they compliment one another perfectly to give you the best life you deserve.
